Let us remember that a Court of Appeal (Lisbon, Portugal) recently accepted that PCR (although an ingenious technique) is entirely inappropriate with regard to SARS-CoV-2 diagnostics.

This is not correct. To receive CE registration the assays specificity needs to be demonstrated by in-silico homology alignment (less than 80% sequence identity) and by experimental data. For those classified ‚for research use only‘ specificity, among other parameters, needs to be validated by the implementing lab.
